STATUS UPDATE -- Rev. Edward Pinkney appeared in Berrien County Courthouse regarding two motions today, February 27. A motion requesting re-sentencing was denied, and so was a motion by the ACLU requesting an appeal bond. On April 14, Berrien County Court will hear two more motions, which regard the tainted jury in Rev. Pinkney's trial. The public is invited.

2)  Ms. Dorothy Pinkney was disappointed that her husband was not released on the appeal bond today, and she said that Rev. Pinkney was, too. It seemed to her that the Court had already decided how it would rule today. Ms. Pinkney said the system in Berrien County is racist, but even knowing that, she had been so optimistic that justice would prevail that she had packed her husband some clothes to wear home from court. Ms. Pinkney said that she continues to rely on God for justice in this matter.

3)  The courtroom and the overflow room were filled with Rev. Pinkney's supporters today, although the court had unexpectedly switched the date of the hearing from February 24 to February 27. Ms. Pinkney thanks everybody who attended today's hearing and all of Rev. Pinkney's supporters who were unable to be there.

4)  A Rev. Pinkney Blogtalkradio show is planned for Sunday, March 1, at 5:00 p.m. EST. Rev. Pinkney plans to speak to you from the prison where he has been detained since December 2014 on election fraud charges regarding a petition to recall the mayor of Benton Harbor, Michigan.

5)  There is a call to boycott WHIRLPOOL, MAYTAG, AMANA, and KITCHEN AID products until Pinkney is out of jail and cleared of all charges.

6)  Conversing with Ms. Pinkney tonight reminded me of innumerable brave spouses and families who have supported their loved one's decision to go into battle through the years, whether in military conflicts or in the ongoing war for basic civil and human rights for Black people in America. May God continue to comfort and strengthen her and us all. The struggle continues.

Rev. Pinkney's Case Bound Over for Trial

Before we get into the next article, I have a question: What happens when you try to "follow this blog"? I have had 103 followers for months now and find that strange. Please try it or ask a friend to try it if you already follow, and try to tell me what happens. Thanks. Here is news about a heroic man, Rev. Pinkney:

Rev. Edward Pinkney was falsely accused of voter fraud in connection with a recall petition for Benton Harbor, Michigan's mayor. At his hearing on May 30, the prosecutor reportedly admitted that he had no evidence against Rev. Pinkney, but he was bound over to court, anyway. Trial was originally set for June, but the prosecutor asked for a delay until September, and the court granted that request. Now trial was scheduled for October 27. We are preparing for court to fight these false charges that are intended to intimidate and persecute a leader who fights for freedom and justice for all people without regard to race, socioeconomic status, or where they live. You are invited to share in the battle to keep Rev. Pinkney free to continue his work.

September Update:  Rev. Pinkney is indeed a fighter. He has another recall petition underway - this one is for the court clerk who received the recall petition for Benton Harbor's mayor. She apparently gave the petition to the sheriff, which was inappropriate and illegal to do without any warrant or subpoena. The sheriff allegedly used the petition to harass the petitioners, and he reportedly took it to another town for a forensics examination. Therefore, the recall petition that is at the center of the election fraud charge against Rev. Pinkney was inappropriately out of the proper chain of custody for months. Yet, Rev. Pinkney will stand trial for peculiarities about the petition that has never been in his unique custody, and he is probably the only person in that entire region who has not touched the recall petition in months. Rev. Pinkney said on his Blogtalkradio broadcast on Sunday, September 14, that he anticipates an all-white jury.

Rev. Pinkney is persecuted because he leads a protest against the corporate takeover of public lands in Benton Harbor area. See an excerpt from BANCO.org:

Whirlpool Vice President Jeff Noel told U. of Mich. business school students and faculty that if you want poor peoples' land, and have justice groups "on your back," simply bring in Habitat for Humanity to build a few houses and donate some appliances. Part of the land he and his corporate partners wanted was deeded in perpetuity to the citizens of Benton Harbor in 1917 by John Klock, a land owner who's infant daughter died. In a town ceremony, Klock spoke of people who owned no land but would always have this park, and named it after his infant daughter: Jean Klock Park. The largest appliance manufacturer in the world, which has outsourced most of it's jobs leaving Benton Harbor in dire poverty, has enough lawyers to get around the minor inconvenience of a deed.

In a video no longer accessible on the web, former Whirlpool CEO Dave Whitwam stated that this is the last and largest piece (530 acres) of prime real estate along the Lake Michigan shoreline. (Parkland is real estate?) Whirlpool is busy inventing terminology to justify their takeover. An example: They call this the first ever "Master Planned Community." It will have a town center with retail shops and restaurants. (Are they replacing Benton Harbor with a new town?) Deeded parkland for the people is becoming a posh enclave for the wealthy.

A stretch of the most pristine, natural beach front is to be no more. Ever. One protester said that people who grew up in this area and love the land and lake feel like an arm is being cut off.

Judges keep ruling in favor of Whirlpool in cases brought by preservationists.

Benton Harbor is approximately 95 percent African American, and its "twin" city St. Joseph is approximately 95 percent Caucasian. There is no other place where apartheid in America is as evident as it is in the Benton Harbor, Michigan area. Please help Rev. Pinkney and BANCO.org fight against police brutality and corporate government corruption. As Rev. Pinkney says, "The battle is not black against white; it is elitists against everybody else. WHIRLPOOL AGAIN TRIES A HOSTILE TAKEOVER OF THE BENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN CHAPTER OF THE NAACP

B.H. BANCO organization reports that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) of the State of Michigan has once again partnered with Whirlpool Corporation to oust Rev. Edward Pinkney as President of the Benton Harbor Chapter. The NAACP  has scheduled a special election for August 16, without giving the activist minister any notice.  In an attempt to wrest the presidency away from Rev. Pinkney, NAACP Michigan State President Yvonne White and Vice-President James Gill have been working with Whirlpool, Marcus Robinson, Mayor James Hightower, Superintendent Leonard Cedwood, and certain pastors: Gavin, Wells, Atterberry, and Melvin Burton. Rev. Pinkney led the "Occupy the PGA Tournament" protest that occurred in Benton Harbor on May 23-27, 2012. It was a successful, peaceful demonstration against the oppression that residents of Benton Harbor endure due to an apparent government/corporate merger in that city. Unfortunately, the NAACP, which historically fights on behalf oppressed people, is intent on eliminating Rev. Pinkney for actually doing that work. Whirlpool and Marcus Robinson paid for over two hundred new NAAACP memberships on the requirement that new members vote against Rev Edward Pinkney in a special election. The parties initially tried to oust Rev. Pinkney in April. Rev. Pinkney filed a lawsuit against the civil rights organization, preventing the special election that NAACP officials had planned to occur prior to the "Occupy the PGA Tournament." Regarding the special election this week, Rev. Pinkney said, "I have received the evidence I need to prove corruption and conspiracy by Whirlpool, Marcus Robinson, the pastors, and a few others. We will be back in court, and my $100,00.00 [lawsuit against NAACP] will again be on the table."

Surveillance, terrorism and infringements on the rights of private citizens, especially those who stand up for justice, is actually more prevalent now than during that time.

It is major news that an NAACP chapter president sued the civil rights organization for the right to maintain his position and actually serve oppressed people, but there were few news accounts about the lawsuit. The level of protection the NAACP receives from corporate media may be equal to the NAACP's protection for corporate America from black victims. Many, if not most, blacks who approach the NAACP for help regarding corporate and government wrongs receive little to no assistance. In several of Rev. Pinkney is not the first chapter president who faced retribution for actually using his office to uplift the organizations' members and bring power to the people. No wonder Rev. Thurgood Marshall was the first of two African-American Justices appointed to the US Supreme Court, was Chief Counsel for the NAACP in 1954. He argued Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka before the high court twice, once in 1952 and once in 1953 (Wikipedia). Marshall probably never imagined a day when NAACP chapter presidents would have to fight the organization for the right to serve the needs of its members instead of catering to corporate sponsors.  (Five(5) links are in this article).

Elitists seem to see the entire earth and its inhabitants their personal property. Rev. Pinkney is a man who decided to peacefully resist oppression and lead others in a struggle to secure and maintain their human and civil rights. He will continue this mission whether or not the NAACP has abdicated its role to do likewise.

This is the week of the PGA, a highly contested golfing event in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and Benton Harbor residents are ready to OCCUPY THE PGA. Many residents claim being suppressed and forced to live under America's first dictatorship. Duly elected city officials in Benton Harbor were stripped of their official duties in 2011, and Michigan's governor placed an Emergency Manager over the local government. Many Benton Harbor residents claim cruel and unusual treatment is happening in their city and assert that the government and a huge corporate entity have conspired to oppress them to satisfy the greed of the elite. Much of the golf course where the PGA will be played was once public lands. Michigan is the state U.S. Senator Levin represents, the man who introduced legislation for indefinite military detention without criminal charges, which U.S. Congress passed and the president signed in 2011 (NDAA, Sec. 1021). It looks like Whirlpool's Harbor Shores organization has behaved again with incredible irresponsibility and arrogance. The attacks on Benton Harbor residents continue. The extraordinary control that the Whirlpool Corporation has taken over the community of Benton Harbor, Michigan must have emboldened them to believe they could act with impunity.

Three years ago, Harbor Shores tapped into the municipal water supply of Benton Harbor to irrigate their developing Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course. It is difficult to imagine how the excavation necessary to accomplish this could be done secretly. Somehow, Harbor Shores drew on this water without paying the city, although the residents of BH were metered and paying for water usage. This was happening while the city was bankrupt and being run by a despotic emergency manager, Joseph Harris, who answers only to Gov. Rick Snyder. About a year after this tap-in began, a water main break necessitated excavations for repairs, and the Harbor Shores splice was discovered. Back payment for a year of heavy water usage was sought. Harbor Shores responded by drawing irrigation water directly from the Paw Paw River. Over the past two years, water rates for a typical household in Benton Harbor have burgeoned from $30/mo. to more than $100/mo. Apparently, the emergency manager has decreed that the water distribution deficit resulting from Harbor Shore's pilferage would be paid for by Benton Harbor residents.
