BOYCOTT 4 JUSTICE: No Shopping June 9, 2011

(5 paragraphs plus 18 links, 1 photo w/ caption) This is your invitation to join the BOYCOTT 4 JUSTICE: NO Shopping on the 9th of any month during 2011.  This shopping moratorium is the People's 9/11 emergency response to corporate greed and government misdeeds. In addition to voting, participating in marches and rallies, signing petitions, complaining to family and friends, and praying for change, we must UNITE in a peaceful, powerful financial protest.  Democrats, Republicans, Independents, blacks, whites, Latinos, Asians, Native Americans, Christians, Jews, Muslims and atheists agree that the country is spiraling downward economically and with regard to civil/human rights.  Globalization means "flattening" the economy in order that corporations will pay no more to workers within the U.S. and other Western countries than in emerging countries.  Unfortunately, our human and civil rights are also being "flattened."

America has suffered a CORPORATE TAKEOVER. The only solution is to answer financially. Elitist overlords are not concerned about us marching and singing, holding rallies, or signing petitions. They do not care if we recall elected officials. They will only coerce or bribe the new ones. What matters to corporations is PROFITS. If Americans delay a financial response, our incomes and spending will be too low to have a significant impact. Then what?

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the early unions in the United States understood that profits had to be affected in order to advance justice.  The Montgomery bus boycott lasted nearly 400 days, and in the end, African Americans could sit where we pleased on public transportation.  Union organizers used to make human chains across the entrances of manufacturing plants and prohibit transport of goods.  Their effectiveness produced the 40-hour work week, paid vacation and sick leave, and safer work environments.  Organizers today speak boldly about the problems America faces.  Most agree that high unemployment and reduced wages, mass incarceration, home foreclosures, school closings, and reductions in social spending stem from corporate greed and government misdeeds.  However, at the end of their speeches, our leaders announce yet another march or offer us another petition to sign for change.  Public protests are absolutely useful for alerting people to problems and voicing concerns to decision makers, but public protests in the absence of any financial incentive for elitists to stop oppression will not suffice.

People can boycott without announcing it.  Some people have reservations about voicing their concerns.  Many are too intimidated to protest.  One activist warned:  "It [suggesting a boycott] exposes you and allows them to target you for elimination. There are groups with DHS contracts for that express purpose."  That may be true, but boycotting does not require a public announcement.  Just don't spend a dime on the 9th of any month. Many Americans have chosen to be slaves, perhaps believing conditions will not get worse than now. The truth is that if nothing is done to arrest the erosion of human and civil rights in our beloved country, jobs will continue to be outsourced to prisons and overseas, and wages inside America will be further reduced.  Imperial wars will escalate and cause more bloodshed and diminish financial resources desperately needed for social programs.  More Americans and immigrants will be murdered under secret arrest like my disabled brother was, with their families censored and threatened, arrested or also murdered if they dare complain. See http://wrongfuldeathoflarryneal.com/  - While Americans fight for human rights abroad and procastinate about correcting abuses here, people die. The least among us, His brethren, are suffering most. RESIST OPPRESSION!
BOYCOTT 4 JUSTICE: No Shopping on the 9th of Any Month
God said unity works! And the LORD said, Behold, The People is ONE, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagined to do. ~Genesis 11:6

Fingerprints, by Mary Neal

Dog Justice

Creativity, innovation, and individuality are are responsible for much that we enjoy in life, from scientific inventions to the arts. However, people are frequently ridiculed, ostracized, and punished - even murdered - for being different in any way. Discrimination is prevalent against minorities, GLBT people, foreigners, obviously poor or uneducated people, and nearly every new kid in a second grade class. Nothing is allowed except uniformity.
.
We are to conform. We are to think alike, dress alike, and react alike to all stimuli. Otherwise, we can expect to be punished. That is terribly wrong, because God loves diversity. He showed that throughout His creation by making every single person and thing different. No one even has the same fingerprint on two of her fingers! Diversity is good. But society doesn't tolerate diversity very well. This hurts people, and it hurts weak people worse. Acute mental patients CANNOT conform. Therefore, they are Tasered, gassed, warehoused in prisons sometimes without criminal charges, and some are killed. That is why you and I must STAND for those who cannot stand for themselves. We must SPEAK for those who have no voice, those who are shut away in solitary confinement prison cells because they are deemed to be "unacceptably different" and lack the wherewithal to modify their behavior to meet expected standards in society. Psychiatric patients need treatment, not imprisonment. It is illegal to treat dogs as some imprisoned mental patients are treated. We must share their pain and BE their solution.
.
Members of ASSISTANCE TO THE INCARCERATED MENTALLY ILL ("AIMI") advocate online to decriminalize mental illness. We believe that treatment should replace imprisonment as America's response to mental illness. Your help in this effort is needed. Donations are appreciated, and there are other ways to assist. Representative Eddie Johnson introduced H.R.619 to resume Medicaid funding for inpatient psychiatric treatment. Withdrawal of that funding led to today's crisis of 1.25 million sick people being imprisoned, some of whom have no criminal charges but were interned on lunacy arrests. Please ask your representatives to support H.R. 619. The public cannot care about conditions they do not know about. Please visit my line-up of articles at http://NowPublic.com/duo and at Care2 - http://www.care2.com/news/member/513396753?sort=submitted as well as my blog http://freespeakblog.blogspot.com/ Share them with others in your blogs, and address the issue of decriminalizing mental illness when you comment on news, write emails, and when you converse with friends and family. Not long ago, victims of child abuse and domestic violence were too afraid of being stigmatized to ask for help. After numerous brave survivors aired their issues on talk shows and sought justice against their abusers in court, public policy changed. More help was made available in terms of shelters and stronger laws. The stigma associated with such victimization was reduced by people who laid their problems before the public. You can help to raise public awareness about criminalizing mental illness, an issue that devastates the lives of millions of Americans - sick people and their families.
.
Read a success story about an AIMI member's son, William. William could be imprisoned right now just like Jeremy Smith, another member's son who is facing a possible life sentence in a California prison. Jeremy Smith hit another mental patient at his mental health facility, but caused no lasting damage. Upon arrest, Jeremy was rude to a guard. His sentence may be lengthened, as he was charged with making "terrorist threats." Inmates who are schizophrenic like Jeremy often have time added to their sentences. Both William and Jeremy acted inappropriately due to mental illness. After a prolonged search, William's mother was able to find a good program for him in North Carolina where he is progressing. Jeremy Smith, on the other hand, is in solitary confinement. See comments about William's progress at this link http://www.care2.com/c2c/groups/disc.html?gpp=17280&pst=854483 and compare them to Jeremy Smith's regression while suffering in "the hole": Justice 4 Jeremy Petition - http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/JusticeForJeremy

Jeremy and many other psychiatric patients can be restored to useful, wholesome lives. Like any other chronic disease, acute mental illness requires treatment. Besides the fact that treatment accessibility is inadequate in the U.S., many psychiatric patients do not recognize their own need for treatment. Patients whose sense of reason is compromised by mental illness, especially those experiencing a crisis, need someone else to make treatment decisions for them. Therefore, in addition to increasing the availability of psychiatric services, we must stop waiting until crimes are committed before relieving patients of making their own mental health care choices. A small percentage of mentally ill offenders need permanent hospitalization - containment in a secure healing environement rather than life in prison. For others, mandated psychiatric treatment upon prison or hospital release is vital to their ability to function outside of a controlled environment.
.
It would be significantly less expensive and more humane to provide quality community care programs and inpatient facilities for crisis patients and those requiring long-term care than it is to imprison people, usually after avoidable tragedies. To decriminalize mental illness would advance public safety and reduce the suffering sick Americans endure for being "unacceptably different." For many centuries, acute mental patients were treated as sub-human, and that standard has returned in 21st century America. It is illogical to relegate over a million people to dungeons because they need treatment they may have been deprived of or lacked the rationale to accept. The list of people who made valuable contributions to society despite mental illness is very impressive and includes masters in the field of science, the arts, and government. A life is a terrible thing to waste.

You are invited to visit AIMI online and consider joining our advocacy group at this link: http://www.Care2.com/c2c/group/AIMI - AIMI is an avenue for us to channel our collective voice. Let us use it. Let us say loud and clear, CHANGE how mentally ill people in America are treated. We will NOT stand mute while they are imprisoned rather than treated for having a common, treatable health condition. We will not ignore their cries and their families' agony as they are being destroyed.

One in five people in America is estimated to suffer from some type of mental illness. I had a sick brother named Larry Neal, a lifelong schizophrenic heart patient who spent 20 years as an inpatient until hospitals closed and downsized in the 1970's and community psychiatric care became less available. Those events caused hundreds of thousands of mental patients like Larry to revolve in and out of prisons and jails for public displays of their psychotic disorders. Larry's repeated arrests culminated in his jailhouse death in 2003 and the birth of AIMI. There are many others like Larry who require better accessibility to mental health care. Some elected officials care about what their constituents care about. Help more people to know and care about this issue. Become an advocate for change by supporting the effort to decriminalize mental illness. Please don't let Larry's death and Jeremy Smith's cruel imprisonment be in vain.

Like fingerprints, everyone is different. We all have certain strengths and weaknesses. One certainty is that all people experience disabilities if they live long enough. But no one should be punished for having a disability, especially with a less expensive option available that is more humane, just, and safer for disabled individuals and the general public. Help bring America out of the Dark Ages. Dogs have protections in America that mentally ill citizens lack. If our canine friends were kept in a small, dark, cold, isolated space for 23 hours a day, most of us would report the abuse. Yet 60% of inmates in solitary confinement are mentally ill. See the petition calling for DOG JUSTICE for Larry Neal and other mentally ill inmates at this site: http://www.petitiononline.com/Neal/petition.html . Please demand that treatment replace incarceration for the mentally ill people in your state.  To see videos with real-time censorship and terrorism to prevent human rights advocacy, including advocacy to pass H.R.619 for mental hospital insurance, please visit my YouTube channel jkempp703 at this link - http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=jkempp703&aq=f

Stressed-out Robber Prays with His Victim

This blog does not open links in a new window.  Please read all before using the links or use your back arrow to return.  Thanks!

Sometimes, life veers far away from our chosen course.  Stress that results when this happens causes some people to act out of character. However, temporary insanity defenses are seldom used because they seldom work. Consider the desperate gunman who prayed with the frightened clerk he robbed at a check-cashing business before finishing the robbery, then later surrendered. He was reportedly an unemployed veteran.

AP - 10/21/09 - INDIANAPOLIS - Police say an armed robber spent nearly 10 minutes on his knees praying with a clerk at an Indianapolis check-cashing business before fleeing with $20 from the register.

Security video from the Advance America branch clearly showed the man's face during the stickup Monday, and a 23-year-old surrendered Tuesday on a preliminary charge of robbery.

Police say the robbery took an unusual turn after the gunman came around the counter when the clerk starting crying and talking about God.

The man said he had a 2-year-old child to support and asked for prayers about overcoming his hardships.

Police say the man removed the bullet from his gun and gave it to the clerk before taking her cell phone and the money.

See the remainder of the article at this link.
http://www.startribune.com/nation/65169007.html?elr=KArks:DCiUMEaPc:Ueyc+D3aUUr

**********************************

Desperate people sometimes do desperate things in desperate times. We must always strive to keep our balance, even when suffering hardships. The young robber now faces the possibility of a lengthy prison term, which certainly did not help his family who he was so anxious about. When one finds oneself considering crimes or violence to self or others as an answer to problems, that when it is important to get professional help. Nothing positive comes from applying negative solutions to hardships.
.
The article above does not give full information on the robber, but it would not be surprising to learn that he had no previous criminal history. Hopefully, the court will consider that the man was suffering from an overload of stress and that he did not hurt anyone. Everyone connected to the case is traumatized, including the clerk who underwent the terrifying experience. I know what it is like to have my safety threatened. Please see the article at the link below about my worst stalking experience since trying to get justice for the secret arrest and wrongful death of my mentally and physically ill brother, Larry Neal. It includes the actual police report I filed, but no case number was assigned and no investigation ensured:

Mary Neal Finally Heard From Police Re 911 Emergency Call When Waylaid

Regardless of the negatives we encounter, it is usually within our power to FOCUS ON POSITIVES. Many philosophers, sociologists, psychologists and others have excellent advice to offer regarding keeping a positive outlook. A favorite quote about this is below:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ~Philippians 4:8

The Jackson's recorded a video that reminds one to focus on the GOOD TIMES! If there is little happening at present to make us smile, let us reflect on happier times and recognize that life is full of hills and valleys. The next hilltop experience may be closer than we think. The vast majority of things people worry about never happen, and some of our most precious memories were surprises we did not engineer. As the character Forest Gump said, "Life is like a box of chocolates."

GOOD TIMES, by The Jackson Five

Balance is important. There is a time to grieve, and we should allow ourselves room to feel disappointment and seek help if grief or feelings of despair threaten to overtake us. But there is also a time to cast off our gloom and find something to rejoice about. When you fall, when you lose, when someone leaves your life through death or a failed relationship, allow yourself time to feel sad, but always pick yourself up again! Like Forest, grab another chocolate and see what is inside!

Helping others is a very good way to shift the focus from one's own problems. I write about injustices as a way to help people who need exposure to their victimization. See the list of articles on the left side of http://www.freespeakblog.blogspot.com/  But I also write about the positive things that are happening in the area of justice, and there are many! We must accept that there are positives and negatives in life, and some are out of our control. We change what we can, and learn to adjust to what we cannot change immediately. It is best never try to handle everything yourself, which can easily lead to feelings of being overwhelmed. One can shift a rock, but it takes more than one to push a boulder. With your help, we will continue to advocate for treatment to replace prisons for acute mental patients (as inpatients or outpatients, depending on their offenses and level of ability to cope in society) who need help pushing the boulders in their lives. No one should be punished for having a disability.

Today, there are approximately 1.25 million mentally ill people incarcerated in America.  Assistance to the Incarcerated Mentally Ill and I would welcome your support in the handy Donations Appreciated button on the upper left side of my the blog. Your assistance informing others about the critical need to deliver our most vulnerable citizens from prisons and into treatment facilities or community care programs can be accomplished easily by using the ADD THIS button. The good news is that advocacy helps. More mental health courts and drug courts are used now to divert people from incarceration into treatment programs that help break the cycle of recidivism and reduce cost to taxpayers. Jail diversion programs offer the hope of a return to wholesome living for program participants. The success rate for assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) programs is high. Kendra's Law (mandated treatment plus subsistence assistance) was responsible for around 90% reduction in homelessness, imprisonment, and hospitalization among New York participants compared to their experiences three years prior to joining the program. AOTs should be applied to save lives and reduce crime and the prison budget across the nation.

Success stories like the Kendra's Law program results help one's outlook considerably. Numerous injustices that prisoner activists, human rights advocates, and the general public write elected officials about and sign petitions to change are answered with a positive outcome, but that news gets less coverage than when a victim is subjected to police violence, discrimination is uncovered, etc. Positives deserve equal attention. For instance, you may wonder months from now what happened regarding the desperate young robber and his family and victim in this article.  With the increased use of jail diversion programs, there may be a slim possibility that the young robber could get the psychological and other help he needs instead of being imprisoned for years.  In fact, there are new provisions specifically made to assist veterans of recent conflicts who become entangled with the law. Please visit my HubPages reports on advancements in justice today by using the link below:

The following link is to one of my favorite videos. People of different races, nationalities, and ages are dancing together, sharing music and fun - armed only with string instruments to make a joyful noise! Strife can upset one's balance as much as the financial trouble faced by the hapless robber in the account above. As people learn to respect each other despite differences in opinions, races, cultures, and across socio-economic lines, there is a corresponding lessening of tension. This can only happen throughout society when the human rights and civil rights of all people are equally protected. There was a time when the notion of African Americans and Caucasians sharing a seat on public transportation was considered absurd by many people. It took enforcement of anti-discrimination laws to make it a commonly accepted practice. Equal justice for disenfranchised people in the justice system regarding both criminal and civil law, mental patients, wrongly accused defendants, and others, is another radical change that can never happen unless and until members of society and governmental systems prioritize it. Enjoy the video below which shows how things could be in the proverbial "melting pot" called America once more lumps are melted in the custard.

This video is rightly called VICTORY!
